The second annual Derby City Fashion week wrapped up another successful week of events and runway shows. Taking place at Hotel Louisville, this year's Fashion Week included a black tie gala and two days of exciting runway shows. Twelve designers, many of whom are from Louisville, showed their latest collections on the runway during this year's fashion week.
This year's featured designer, Rafael Cox, was a season nine Project Runway fashion designer. Cox's collection featured feminine, yet edgy looks complete with bold colors and fashion forward designs.
Derby City Fashion Week's executive director, Denise Starks, also showed her collection on the runway. Starks is the president and lead designer of Sachhi Design & Couture. The Sacchi runway show featured a versatile collection of beautiful dresses and two piece ensembles. Rich colors and fantastic prints were seen throughout this stunning collection.
Appealing to the entire audience, some designers created collections featuring looks for both women and men. TheBeach Bling Swimwear show featured an impressive collection of men's and women's swimwear and cover ups. The CooLHeadS collection featured unique and innovative headwear for men and women. Jasmine Booker's Runway Fashions collection featured a collection beautifully designed and well tailored looks for both men and women. Runway Fashions' motto is "Dress to Impress for Less," and the collection certainly lived up to expectations. Also, showing men's and women's looks, the Debonaire Designs show was refreshing with their collection of modern styles, bright colors and African prints. All eyes were on the runway during this fantastic show.
Jeffersonville High School student, ARyea Kolubah's collection amazed the audience with her designs. All of her designs were constructed from trash bags. These high fashion designs were beautifully crafted and looked stunning coming down the runway.
The GQ Unlimited show took mens wear looks up a notch with their collection. GQ Unlimited showed that men's wear doesn't have to be boring by showing bold colors and many possibilities.
Women's wear collections from Brick Malone, Edward of Louisville, and Mymeapparel Designs, and Honest Sin rounded out this year's runway shows. The Edward of Louisville show included beautiful dresses and gowns that women of all ages will fall in love with. These gorgeous designs were the perfect balance of modern meets sophisticated. Brick Malone's collection was full of bright colors and cutting edge designs. This collection showed looks perfect for day and night. Designer Vicky Lleras' Honest Sin collection showed fun and feminine looks. Brilliant hues of pink, blue, red and yellow, along with fantastic prints, were seen throughout this fun and youthful collection. Finally, Mymeapparel Designs presented a collection of ready to wear looks perfect for spring. Using various cuts, styles, and designs, Mymeapparel Designs showed their versatility and talent for designing ready to wear women's fashions.
These twelve talented designers helped make this year's fashion week a success with their remarkable collections. This year's Derby City Fashion Week may be over, but these beautiful designs are still on our minds.
